Talkspace: A Closer Look at Online Therapy

Talkspace is a mobile app that offers online therapy services. It allows people to connect with licensed therapists and counselors from the comfort of their own home or favorite safe comfy space.  In this post, I'll take a closer look at Talkspace and what makes it unique, at least in my opinion.

How it Works

After signing up for Talkspace users are matched with a licensed therapist based on their individual needs and/or preferences. The user can then communicate with their therapist via text, audio, or video chat. I have used all three of these options and I personally like them all for different moments and situations. Talkspace's messaging platform is secure and HIPAA compliant, meaning that users personal and health information is kept confidential.

Talkspace offers a range of therapy plans, including individual therapy, couples therapy, and teen therapy. Users can also choose from plans that offer additional features, such as live video sessions and the ability to switch therapists at any time. The institution I attend does provide use of the app to its students by offering and covering the costs of unlimited texting through the Talkspace platform along with a 10, 30, and 60 minute live video or aduio chat.

What Makes Talkspace Unique

Talkspace stands out from other online therapy services in a few ways:

Affordability: Talkspace is more affordable than traditional in-person therapy sessions, making it accessible to a wider range of people. Users can choose from different pricing plans with options starting at $65 per week for text-based therapy.

Convenience: Talkspace allows users to receive therapy on their own schedule, from anywhere with an internet connection. This makes it a convenient option for individuals with busy schedules or who live in remote areas without easy access to in-person therapy.

Privacy: Talkspace's messaging platform is secure and HIPAA-compliant, ensuring that users' personal and health information is protected. This can be especially important for individuals who are hesitant to seek therapy due to concerns about privacy and confidentiality.

Flexibility: Talkspace offers a range of therapy plans to suit anyones needs, as well as, the ability to switch therapists at any time. This allows people to find a therapist who they feel comfortable working with and to customize their therapy experience to fit their unique needs.

Is Talkspace Right for You?

Talkspace can be a great option for people who are looking for an affordable, convenient, and private way to receive therapy. However, it's important to note that online therapy may not be suitable for everyone. Individuals who are experiencing severe mental health issues or who require in-person therapy for other reasons may need to seek traditional therapy services. Which is completely OKAY!

If you're considering Talkspace or another online therapy service, it's important to do your research and find a provider that is right for you. Look for licensed therapists with experience in treating the issues you're facing. Read reviews from others to get a sense of their experiences with the service. By taking the time to find the right provider, you can ensure that you receive the support and care you need to improve your mental health and wellbeing.

  1. Hi Brittany, This is really interesting! I am currently in online counseling through Appalachian Life Counseling. It really helped me get through the pandemic. That was rough being an immune-compromised individual! I definitely needed face-to-face counseling at first as I was in desperate need but I have found the more managed I am, online works just as well.

  2. Hey Brittany! Thank you for sharing about Talkspace and the benefits! I've never used this specific service, but virtual therapy has been a game changer for me. Being able to connect with a licensed therapist without having to travel to their office has been so helpful. I think virtual therapy has also made me more comfortable talking to a therapist, especially being able to be at home.
